The stove is the heart of the kitchen.
A thick iron plate protects the floor. On top of this are the andirons, which support the firewood. Attached to the wall, a second wrought iron plate radiates the heat from the fire to the front. At the front, we see an iron bar with rings at each end. Hooked onto a crossbar inside the hood hangs an iron chain, which can be seen under the hood. This has a hook from which a copper cauldron is suspended, used to prepare food inside. It is complemented by tools for food preparation and other uses, such as the clothesline that hangs from the hearth.
The hood that collects smoke from the hearth has a narrow wooden ledge around its perimeter. Everyday objects were placed on it: the chocolate pot, the scales, candlesticks and the mortar. Moreover, various items were hung around the hood, such as the rosary beads that we can see.
The hearth cloth is a small piece of fabric or curtain that decorates the hood shelf and has been kindly made in the traditional style by a resident of the Peiomosso house, as have the kitchen curtains, which were made especially for this exhibition.
